Fighting Fit For Ewing’s
Fighting Fit For Ewing's is an awareness campaign which aims to highlight the importance of exercise for rehabilitation. Fitness is used as an educational tool to help people who want to help themselves. The use of physical challenges are a fun way to keep the campaign alive and interesting. People from all around the world have connected with Nikki through FFFE as they have found encouragment and motivation to persue their own challenges. Nikki's mantra is 'Yes Now, Worry Later' People often hesitate when taking on a challenge but if you say yes now you can figure out the logistics over time.
The Fighting Fit For Ewing’s Vision
To alter the norms of society by proving that significant goals can be achieved regardless of physical ability.
To provide a safe environment for people to share their life story.
To inspire others to take action.
The Fighting Fit For Ewing’s Mission
To highlight the importance of exercise for rehabilitation.
To raise awareness for Ewing’s Sarcoma.
To provide education to patients post cancer.
Some physical challenges to date include; rock climbing, abseiling into a 45 foot ice cave, sea stack climbing, mountain climbing, 5ks, a tyrolean traverse, scaling a route of the Sólheimajökull glacier in Iceland and attempting a Guinness World Record in Holland.
FFFE will eventually become a registered charity. All monies raised will be donated to cancer wards.
The long term goal is to provide a relaxing space for teens battling cancer to go and hang out with other teens and be 'normal' . While receiving treatment for Ewing's Sarcoma, Nikki was placed in an adult ward. The majority of patients around her were approximately 50+ years her senior. The only alternative was to be placed in a children's ward which Nikki was not prepared to do. To have a space dedicated solely to teens would make a big difference.
First Woman To Abseil Off Fanad Head Lighthouse.
On the 12th of August, 2015, Nikki became the first woman to abseil off one of Ireland's most iconic landmarks; Fanad Lighthouse. This is one of many physical challenges Nikki has participated in and it ignited her love for adrenaline sports.
